First whole day on holiday, but the tide was not due until late in the
afternoon. Enjoyed the sun and the pool at the Gite in the morning and then
headed for the beach. We arrived at the beach to find a nice onshore wind
blowing and lots of people already on the water (40+). Rigged a 6.0M and
set off on the PowerGlide, but could not get going. Came back in and rigged
the 6.7 and re-launched.
Wayhay!
I was straight on to the plane and off across the bay. Looking at the map I
must gone about 2Km’s or more! Turned round, hooked in and went back at
full pelt! Only thing was the harness lines did not seem to be quite right
on the way back. As the wind was onshore I managed to play on the face of a
few ‘waves’ and managed some nice foot-steering on the face of a
‘wave’ to get back to the beach in front of the non-windsurfing friends
(they were impressed!). Collapsed on the beach (god I am unfit!) and
recovered for 10 minutes, by which time the wind had swung through 90
degrees and picked up.
Sailed straight out to sea (very brave for me) popping over the waves
nicely, but could not quite get a chop hop in! Had some more good runs and
coped very well with the increase in wind (maybe should have changed down,
but what the hell!)
Overall A very good day! Finally get the 5 star stoke rating!
Looking forward to more like this while on holiday…got to get the stoke
factor up!
